🛑 Just stop it.

Howdy, Zack here.

Stop it. Stop doing the things that aren't working for you.

Sound too simple? Well, it's not. It's one of the hardest things to do. Yet, funny enough, once you've done it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner. You know what's not working for you. Ugh, lump in my throat. I have a few that come to mind right now.

It might be eating too much, not working out, wasting time on social media, getting caught up in drama, focusing on big world issues (like politics), or pretty much anything that isn't putting you on the proper path. Even good things can get in the way of reaching your goals. Too much time on hobbies and neglecting work. Too many hours taking courses versus actually doing them.

Whatever it is, once you get to the other side of it, you'll thank yourself for having the grit to stop doing it.

But I want you to be at peace knowing that we all have things in our lives that are out of order. The important part is being willing to stop and make intentional decisions to refocus your time and energy. It's just human nature to start strong and then steadily let things creep back out of order. It's why we have Weekly, Quarterly, and Annual Planning Meetings as part of a critical cadence for building strong companies. We must look at our 'list' to make strategic decisions about where to spend our time.

So, don't beat yourself up over it. But, do stop what's not helping you grow personally and professionally and start doing the things that will help you achieve your goals.

How can you stay focused on your most important priorities?

3 WAYS

  • Stick to a Cadence
Both personally and professionally, you can benefit from a meeting cadence where you intentionally check in on your goals, all the items on your list, and where you're intentionally spending your time. Don't miss this meeting.
  • Be Honest With Yourself and Others
Take a hard look at your life and your work. Where is your time going? What are you focusing on? Is it working for you? What have you been putting off and where should most of your time be going? Most of us know this in our gut.
  • Be Willing to Change and Do It
Before you leave your meeting, make strong decisions to follow through on your word. Write down your goals and your plan. Report back on it in your future meetings; as your teams, family, or friends can help hold you accountable.

Just remember:
Stop doing the things that are not serving you well and start focusing your time and energy on what will. 💪

Howdy, Zack here. Are you navigating a challenging valley in life right now? Are things not going as planned? Do you feel stuck and overwhelmed? These moments can be tough, to say the least. I know. I've been there. We all have. But they also offer profound lessons and opportunities for incredible growth. Whether you follow a particular faith or not, the wisdom found in Biblical teachings and Stoic philosophy can offer valuable guidance through these difficult times. They emphasize...

Howdy, Zack here. I love you. Yes, you. And, that love is not conditional. We all have our faults. I know when I've been at my worst, that I need others' love the most. Unless you've been living under a rock or you've intentionally disconnected (can't blame you), you've seen the effect of deliberate division — the recent assassination attempt on former President Trump. No matter your political beliefs, this sort of hatred has no place in our world. It stems from the polarization of our...

Howdy, Zack here. When will it be time? We often wait for that perfect 'when' — the moment everything falls into place. But what if 'when' is actually right now? As a dad of triplets on the brink of their senior year, time feels more precious than ever. Everything has been one-and-done for us. Before long, my wife, Gwen, and I will be seeing our 3 off to college. Thus, each moment matters more. Can you relate? When certain chapters come to an end, we tend to feel the gravity of our decisions...
